Backyard Sugarin is absolutely worth the price of the book. I bought it about a year and a half ago (used) and we tapped our first trees last year. It is a great book for the homesteader because it doesn't assume that you have the money to go out and buy all new equipment, it also gives a lot of different ideas for boiling off, collection, etc. That book is sacred in my house, it is thin but packed with info. It made me feel confident about tapping and this year we saved up and bought and hung tubing so we have upped our production from 12 taps to 62. email me if you have any questions, I am no expert but I may be able to answer some questions.

I'll put in a good word for the book, too. Tapping our maples is on my "To Do Someday" list but this book gave me all the info I needed to know that I CAN do it when I'm finally ready to. It also has a whole bunch of great photos which show the whole process. Those alone are worth the price of the book.

This is an awesome book. I checked it out of the library before buying. The author is very clear in his explanations, and also entertaining. If you are serious about sugarin' this is the book to get.
