I have a recipe using ground cinnamon. It makes cute gingerbread men and doesn't have to be painted. Might that work? It uses cinnamon, applesauce and glue. Smells really really good!

Hi, I have several recipes. 1 1/2 cups flour 1 cup salt 1 T Alum 1 T oil 1 cup boiling water 1 pkg koolaid

mix, cut, dries overnight in a warm place. Also, 1 cup flour, 2 cups oatmeal, 1 cup water, same as above. also, 1 16 oz jar sweetened applesauce drained overnight in a coffee filter mixed with 8 oz ground cinnamon, knead, roll, cut, poke hole for hanging, dry in warm place for several days. Also 1 cup flour, 1/2 cup salt, 1 cup water, 1 Tablespoon oil, 2 teaspoons cream of tartar and 1 3 oz package of unsweetened jello, mix, cook over medium heat stirring constantly until texture of mashed potatoes, cool then knead with floured hands, cut and dry, may be painted. Also, ground coffee may be substituted in above recipes for additional texture. I know I have some more recipes, just need to dig.

Hi again, I have gotten a few requests for my cinnamon ornament recipe and thought that I would put it on here in case someone else wanted it. It is very similar to the one above from Gina. She and I must think alike:~D! It contains a drained jar of applesauce or two cups, 8 oz of ground cinnamon, and 2 oz of elmer's glue. The glue keeps it from breaking so easily. I made these with my first graders when I used to teach school. They are paintable and also can use the little squirt paint thingys that you use on sweatshirts if you want an icing like stuff. (like for gingerbread men) Roll out a quarter inch thick, cut out with cookie cutters, put hole in the top, let dry on waxed paper for 2 hours and then let dry on rack for 24 hours or until completely dry. You can also add a few drops of cinnamon oil to the back of each ornament for extra scent.(I don't use cinnamon oil with kids, it burns your skin) Might also add some ground cloves to the mixture for a really wonderful smell. They are brittle when dry so be careful that you make extras with small children or someone will get very teary eyed at the end of the day! I only had a few ornamental casualties, but I gave them the ones that I had made extra just in case and they were happy. Have fun!

You can also add glitter to the dough for a nice sparkly effect. And maybe you could use that glitter glue and get color, glitter and adhesive all in one. :o)

2cups flour, 1 cup salt 1 cup water mix flour and salt, add 1/2 water mix well, add rest of water. Knead tell smooth [ about 10 min].roll out dough and shape or use cookie cutters, make a hole with a straw or tooth pick. Bake at 325 for 1 1/2hours or until dry. I made these yesterday and let my son paint them with food coloring before baking and they turned out great.
