Shakti "Melissa"

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Alexander the Great Q&A Forum : One Thread

I read on the FAQ sheet for Alexander the Great -- a refernce to his "shakti" named "Melissa". I have been unable to find any other references to Alexanders relationship with anyone by the name of "Melissa" in any books or research material so far.

Could you please let me know of the source of this information?

There is no reference to this name in the extant Western sources. There *are* medieval romances/myths concocted later that invent all manner of fantastic tales. In fact, there are myths in many nations regarding Alexander, and many continue to be written today. Alexander has become what each person wants him to be, obviously, and for every need, there is a corresponding myth. "Melissa" was the name for priestesses of the cult of Aphrodite on Mount Eryx, if I am recalling correctly.

Shakti is a Hindu term for feminine energy. I think every god has a wife or consort which is his Shakti or energy source. It's kind of like your muse and soulmate in one.

Hi, Allehseya!

I am in DC too! Well, Melissa was his second half. As far as know from an ancient legend, she was a Greek slave, later on liberated, who accompanied Alexander throughout his campaign until a certain moment when they parted. I don't know why but after this things went wrong for Alexander just like for Napoleon when he parted with Josephine. Women sometimes play extremely important hidden role in history. I will do extra research and post in on FAQ in a month or two, so please visit often!
