Stephanie, the answer to your question is no, sorry, but I can tell you about a couple of wonderful books. As mentioned above "The Art of Training a Puppy" by The Monks of New Skete is a wonderful book. I keep this book and one other(after reading just about every training book published in the last 20 years)handy and re-read them all the time. The second and my favorite book is "Mother Knows Best", the natural way to train your dog, by Carol Lea Benjamin who was the staff dog training writer for the American Kennel club Gazette for many years and a wonderful writer and knowledgable trainer. I do have other dog training books for special training like herding etc. but for every day, have a great dog, training these are unbeatable. One thing you find after being in dog training for years is not every method works for every dog or every owner. I would suggest you go to your library, check out every dog book on training they have and be sure and get your hands on the two mentioned above and then purchase your favorites. Try used book stores, like Powells in Portland, OR and you can save money. Good luck, LQ

Hi Stephanie,

My sister and I have read many, many dog training and psychology books. My sister told me tonight about a book called "Don't Shoot the Dog." She says she is learning a lot of good, new information from it. That is really saying something since she already knows way more than most people. Anyway, the book is by Karen Pryor. It emphasizes positive reinforcement rather than punishment. I did a search on Bookfinder.com and have provided a link below to the least expensive copy they had listed. (It happens to be a new copy.) It's listed for $5.13 plus shipping. Hope this helps.

Reading for starters is great .But I also suggest taking some obedience classes under different instructors .Not all train the same way .Take what you like best from the different trainers and apply that to your training at home .I love puppy kindergarden classes to start off with .
