Vicki from Tx and others, Please direct me to the various Goat Boards/Sites. Also, how does one go about finding a Goat Mentor? Thanks, Lynn

Hi Lynn,

I guess basically it leaves this forum or the Goat Shed over at MSN communities. There are several goat lists at yahoogroups.com too that may be able to help. I was on homedairygoats@yahoogroups.com until I was not able to keep up with the e-mails, lots of mail. Homedairygoats is a great list for newbies. Their files have lots of information as well, great folks on there too.

I hope this helps. Vicki is trying hard to fill the gap, Bless her heart.

Bernice

Hi Lynn... go to http://groups.yahoo.com or do a general search using the keywords "yahoo egroups" and it should come up. Then do a search of their groups by the word "goats"... you should get hundreds of them coming up...and you can scroll through them and read about them and join (subscribe) to as many as you like.. I belong to 22 goat groups on yahoo alone (okay...stop laughing... guess I'm a goat group junkie!). Anyway... have fun! :)patty Prairie Oak Miniatures http://www.minifarm.com/prairie_oak visit our message board too! http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Littlegoats moderator

I like to go to countrylife.net On the left is a choice of boards to visit, go to livestock, and you'll find Nola knows about anything you'd like to know about goats. There's also mrssurvival.com where there's a homesteading and livestock section in the "discussion forum" where you can find help. Both are good boards.

Once again over at groups.yahoo.com is Nubian Talk, for pure answer to question, you simply can't beat the 1000+ folks on it, with many having goats 20+ years. Then find your breed, LaMancha, Saanen, Alpine they all have their sites, Boer, and many many others also. Patty above here is great with the mini's, and though a goat is a goat, its nice to have folks who automatically think small, and not the large goat answers I give! And Patty is nice!

Lynn, for a goat mentor, where are you located? I can send you all the goat clubs in your state. Visit a couple of clubs, visit a show, find someone you like. Some folks are very open and want to help, others are burnt out and simply don't like to help newbies. This is a good time right now since most breeders goats are pregnant and drying up, leaves us alot more time for the boards and visitors. Joining ADGA (American Dairy Goat Association)also gives you a directory with 1000's of folks all over the USA and other countries in goats. I can guarnatee their are ADGA folks in your area, you just haven't met them yet! So Patty for mini goats, me and Bernice over at The Goat Shed on communities.msn.com and if you have Boer or meat how about goatandsheeprancher over at Yahoo groups. I also have friends at Our Goat Barn at yahoo that belong to all the boer goat associations, who could help find you someone if you do meat. Don't recommend their site for all but the strong willed :) Vicki
