North of 60 (Canadian Show/Movie)

Did anyone here watch the new North of 60 movie last night? How about the old series? I am hooked big time and have recorded almost all of the shows. I am in love with Michelle and think Albert is cool and wish I could live like Joe. Do you wish you could live in a place like that? And how come you don't see people growing things there?

Because its a TV show Tom!! Geez Louise! LOL Is Michelle the Native police officer or the blonde doctor? I know what you mean though..but I don't think gardening is a big way of life in the bush. If you like that show you should check out the movie "Dance Me Outside" which is based on the W.P Kinsella characters. Parts of it will break your heart and parts will have you peeing in your pants laughing. A spin off from that is the show "The Rez". I never totally got into North Of Sixty but its on pretty much everyday in reruns on CBC..at least it was. So's Red Green. :o)

Ahhh, Tom, you're a man after my own heart. Isn't it a wonderful show? I caught the first episode when it aired originally, and never missed another. I was living in downtown Toronto, and missing my Northern Ontario "bush" home, where I grew up. I hooked my mother and my husband on it. I was so disappointed when the series went off the air, as it was the only *really* good show on at the time. Bad guy, or not, I've always loved Albert, even if he's much older than me. The reason you don't see them growing things there is because they're in the North West Territories, and I don't expect there'd be much of a growing season that far north. Also, being Native, there'd be much more of a hunter/gather-er tradition. You know, like Elsie was gathering stuff to put in those jars in the movie. Would I live in a place like that? In a heart-beat. If my husband got a job up north in the diamond mines, etc., I'd be packing immediately. Would love to take a vacation up there someday, much better than a beach. Also, just to let you know, it's actually filmed in the foothills of the Rockies, outside of Calgary, Alberta. Kananaskis Country, they call the area.

Hey! Don't talk about these good shows that we poor folks can't get! :-P

Is this something that a PBS station might be persuaded to acquire and run? Or is it too "lowbrow"? How do YOU get it, Tom? Do you get a feed of CBC or is one of the US stations running it.

I want to see it! You are mean for teasing me this way! ;-)

Hey Joy, talk to your local PBS station. I remember reading years ago that North of 60 had been running in tons of countries. It's definitely a quality show, and PBS would be unlikely to turn their noses up at it, unless it was too expensive to buy.

Just found this link to a website: (Google has 10 sites listed for the show)

Joy, I get it or I should say used to get on the CBC station from Windsor since I live next to Canada its part of the cable package. But as of Oct 1st CBC is no longer running the reruns, I think they got their use out of them for awhile. As for a PBS station picking it up I just might look into that and see if it possible.

Alison in N.S., Let me say that I love Nova Scotia,I was up there in '98' to pick up my Canadian Eskimo dog and would love to get back there again Yes Michelle is the RCMP officer, Man would I like t---? Sarah is the doctor/nurse. I will check out "Dance Me Outside" Thanks.

Rheba, I hooked my wife,mother-in-law and father-in-law into it. I do say though that if I could turn back time and start over that would be about the only thing I would change is I would find a way to live in Northern Canada. basically because I'm probably a bit weird and also I have this inner feeling for anything above the 45° parallel.

I live about an hour from where the show was filmed before it was canceled (Bragg Creek, AB). Strangely enough, it doesn't look like that around here. Bragg Creek is considered a very *posh* place to live, actually, and there are a lot of very wealthy people in that neighborhood.

I heard last year that the kid who played TV (the young native guy who was always in trouble, but turned out okay in the end) was beaten nearly to death and was in hospital hooked up to life support. Anyone hear what happened to him???
