How to make homemade vinegar?

How do you make homemade vinegar? Is there anything about doing this with fruit peelings that would possibly make one sick? I'm thinking of at least making the vinegar to feed the chickens with their water.

make you sick?? only if you drank ALL of it at once, and still maybe. Put peels,,cores,, whatever, in a jar, bucket, ect,,, add some sugar,, add some water,, let it set,, or if you have a started (mother) it will go quicker. Sometime I just use apple cider,,and let it set awhile

Any reason why this could not be used for cleaning? What kind of peelings do you use? Proportion of peelings to water? What makes this vinegar or wine?

Hi Ann, Countryside had an excellent article in it, in the July/August 1999 magazine about making homemade vinegar. Go to the home page at www.countrysidemag.com, click on past issues and it will be there in the July/Aug. 1999 one.
