Peanut butter & tomato sandwiches

Does anyone else out there eat peanut butter and tomato sandwiches?

I sitting here eating mine and I got to remembering that when I was growing up, we didn't think it was summer until we began eating peanut butter and tomato sandwiches at Grandma's old place. Fresh from the garden, the tomatos were still "sun warmed". Sliced thick, salted, and placed between two slices of peanut buttered bread, they are a little bit of heaven on earth.

I've only met one other person outside of my family that eats them. Anybody else?

Now a peanut butter and bannana sandwich is more my speed. Once even sauteed the banannas (very) briefly with a smidgen of butter and Kahlua before sliding them between the breadslices but that's more ostentatious than I'll usually go to.

In our family, it's peanut butter and mayo, peanut butter and honey, p.b. and bologna, even p.b. and chicken. The tomatoes go well on toast with a slice of cheese and a sprinkling of oregano, broiled just till the cheese bubbles. And there has been the occasional child around here to try this: spread an English muffin (homemade) with peanut butter, add a layer of apple slices, top with slice of cheese, broil till bubbly. Now, tomorrow, when I tell them about peanut butter and tomatoes, I wonder what they'll come up with!

Peanut butter & Tomatoes? hmmmm... grew up in a pretty food consertativce household. Well, it was basically ethnic, dad was Swediah and chunked picked herring down my throat before i knew enough to say YUK! Mom wa sPolish so we ate a lot of interesting Polish dishes like Ducks blood soup or chaneia (sp?). But anyways, the post about peanut butter and may brought back memories of my ex he ate them, i would just go YUK! I figured he couldn't afford Marshmallow fluff growing up, but they could. I tried it one, didn't thrill me. now I used to eat ketchup on everything growing up, bologan, mashed potatoes, etc.

I love peanut butter and tomato sandwiches. When I eat them the children (and husband) make gagging noises and tell me I'm crazy. I'm glad to know I'm not the only one around that knows what is good!
