goats showing heat

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

I purchased two female pygmy goats about 3 or 4 months ago.The person that got them for me didn't get any information but they look young and haven't appeared to grow much if any.I don't have a billy.I haven't seen them ride each other as cows do when they are in heat.Do goats usually do this? Thanks Keith

Yes, goats will often ride each other when in heat. They are way too young to be bred so that's good you don't have a buck with them. They should be at least a year old before breeding.

Be careful because does that young can come into heat and be bred. The signs of heat are, well... some will ride, but in heat they get restless, beller sometimes and have a discharge. The also wag their tails a lot too. The cycle is every 28 days average.
