Need cure for plantar warts

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

I have a small plantar wart coming up on my big toe, anyone got a known cure, like natural or herbal. I had these about 10 years ago, they spread and were really hard to get rid of, used stuff from the doc. It was expensive then, no telling how much it cost now. Thanks

Black walnut tincture applied topically is the only alternative herbal treatment I know of for any type of wart, don't know if it would work for a plantar wart.

Hi, when I was a kid, like 65 years ago, When we got a wart, they put just plain vinager on it and put a band aid over it, or tape. It will turn black and fall off. It must have worked. cause I sure don"t have any warts now, and no body went to a Doc. back then,Love Irene

Try Vick's vapo and keep it on there. It works for us.

Had a few of those nasty things on my foot when I was about 13. Tried acouple of cures the doc gave me, didn't work. Tried some other suggestions, don't even remember what they were. Only way I finally got rid of them was clipping out some of the stringy stuff in the middle with a small sharp blade, then doused with iodine. Kept the iodine on them, sealed it in with bandaids. Hurt like heck for a few minutes, but the darned warts hurt to walk on anyway. After just a few days of dousing with the iodine, they started to heal. Years later my ex-husband had one coming up on his foot, and I did the same thing to his with Betadine (povidone iodine). The wart didn't get a chance to fully open, and in a few days it healed up. Betadine is great stuff, doesn't burn/hurt like regular iodine or peroxide.

Tried and true - castor oil. Rub a little on (about 15 rubs) and cover with bandaid. Do this everyday faithfully and it will be gone. I had a huge one on my ankle years ago that I tried everything on and castor oil was the only thing that got rid of it for good. I can't remember how long it took - maybe a month or more. That suggestion came out of the book "Vermont Folk Medicine".

I can't remember where I heard this, but if you crush vitamin C tablets and work in a little water to make a paste, then apply and cover the area with a band-aid, the acid in the vitamin C will kill the wart. Every few days you are supposed to scrape off the dead, and just a few weeks (if I remember right) will take care of it permanently. I had a roommate in college who tried this and it worked!

Gee...sounds like there are a million different cures !! My husbands swears this will work as he has done it for himself....break open a capsule of Vitamin E. and just spread it on the wart a few times a day. It seems to have worked for him. I also have heard about rubbing a potato on it...don't know about this.. but guess it's worth a try. Good Luck !!

Lots of different cures mentioned in this thread. One I have done is to go visit a local dairy farmer (have to know the people) and use the liquid nitrogen from the semen tank to burn the wart off. It did work.

OK, this is by far going to be the wierdest answer to your question, but this actually worked for me. I had a large plantar wart on my foot for a long time and nothing got rid of it until I heard this old folk remedy from an old lady who fancied herself some kind of "witch" (I say this with respect to the wiccan's out there). You take an ordinary household string, hold your arms out to each side and make it as long as the span between your fingertips on each arm. Hold the string in one hand, hanging it down towards the ground, light the bottom end and let it burn until it reaches your fingers, letting go as it burns the entire string. Sounds REALLY wierd, but it worked for me! The plantar wart was gone within several weeks, and I hadn't used anything else on it for quite awhile before doing this, so it probably wasn't residual from any remedies I'd put on it previously. Try it and let us know if it works. Of course, maybe she did some other witch-like thing also, which I can't remember. This was 20+ years ago.

You can get over the counter cream at Wal-Mart, K-mart, etc. It is pretty cheap too. It is sold in the same place they put the athelete's foot medicine, wart remover, corn remover, etc. I hope you get rid of them soon!

If you look at the label on the over the counter meds in the pharmacy, they contain salicylic acid (better known in the solid form as aspirin). Crush aspirin tablet, sprinkle it over wart to coat it and apply cloth tape to hold it in place. May take several weeks with some soaking and trimming in between for a large wart, but it will work and aspirin is cheap and readily available. Used this method on a huge one that hatched on my big toe a couple years ago. Worked fine.

My doctor said to go to Wal-Mart an get a med. from the foot power section called DuoFilm put this on your wart and them dry the med. with a hair dryer. get a sharp razor blade and as the days go by the wart is being dried out on top just gentely cut away the dead skin on top. The med. draws the wart to the surface and as you cut the dead off you are cutting away the wart forever. keep putting med. on once to twice a day and keep covered, keep cut down and it will go away. This is not an old method this is a modern remedy from a for real foot doctor . Good Luck!
