Is there a Canadian equivallent to 'county extension offices' in the States? Every book I read or website I visit tells you to ring your extension office if you have questions about everything from growing vegetables to testing your pressure canner. Are there any Canadians out there who have extension offices in their area, or something that provides the same service?

Contact the ministry of agriculture for your province of interest. They will either provide the info you seek or provide further contacts. Usually they are very helpful (once you get past the the initial phone answerers!) Good luck.

I'd also be inclined to advise a Ministry or Department of Agriculture. Canada seems to do things more on the same model we use for Australia, which is state (province?) Departments of Agriculture, rather than at the county/shire level. If they don't do it, they must be able to tell you who does, and someone does, because I know our state Departments of Agriculture liaise with organisations over there.

Hi Emily, Look in the phone book under Provincial Government and you will find phone numbers for the offices for Agriculture Department in your province. At least thats how the phone book is here. Also you can check under http://www.agra.ca/index_e.phtml Good luck. With all the cut backs Ag reps are a dying breed.
