ARrggghh...is anyone out there a Guided by Voices fan?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : I Really Love Music : One Thread

I'm looking to get another guided by voices album. I know that I should stop after the last two (both dreadful commerical efforts). Bee Thousand? Vampire on Titus?

I certainly think doompatrol is guided by voices.

Oh wow. Alien Lanes is my fave GBV record. I will be at the London gig. First time I see (and hear) them live.

Was thinking about getting Bee Thousand...should I?

Definitely. Didn't bother getting Isolation Drills after I was exposed to the previous one. Do The Collapse? Yeah that one. Stinker.

Bee Thousand rocks Doomie mate. You should definitely get it. They ain't lost it yet

I think I will get Bee Thousand, I have Alien Lanes and it is fantastic and f*ck the other one and it is pretty good. I got the box set but had to wade through too much crap and the last two were complete commercial junk.

I saw that Of Arrowe Hill is opening up for Guided By Voices, I saw them in February opening for Cosmic Rough Riders and they are the drunken byrds are they not?

Damn. I wish I was going to that show. Tell me what it is like Natalie...

Of Arrow Hill has Ian Johnson who used to wor k at Creation Records. He stuck around for Pooptones. He's more drunk than sober. I used to be on the Guided by Voices list just like Ian. So that's how I know him (from afar). Apparently, yes, they are very Byrdsy (or rather more Neil Young, no?)

I will be at the GBV show. I... will...be... at the show. I always fucking miss that band. Last time they postponed the show! Oh yeah probably gonna be at Radio Four Poptones clubnight with some *interesting* djs. wink wink

I just got back from HMV...where I bought the Bee Thousands. I had a copied version on a cheap cd from Napster...

Yeah, more Buffalo Springfield than Byrds.

The show is going to be really good, I betcha.........

I started getting into Guided by voices this year, actually after being on the Wichita mailing list. Odd to try to delve through that bands records after years of missing out. Alien Lanes/earwig/people under the stairs (I got those names wrong) and now Bee Thousand. Why did they get so crap when they got on a major?

Very confused about the number of releases they have? Thirty/Fourty?? I bought the box set but sold it. I don't think that I am that much of a guided by voices fan (yet).

And tell Ian that he was going to send me a of arrowe hill single that never showed up! hhahaha...but now I know why! Too drunk!

You *wish* it was 34. I think everytime he's on the toilet, he shits out a record. hah! But still, you should have kept the boxset. It's now out of print.

Arrgghh!!! Don't tell me that, now I am going to be obsessing over the box set. I think it is still sitting in the record shop waiting for the next lucky owner (which is me, being lapsed catholic obsessive boy)...

What else would you recommended re: Guided by voices?

Vampire on Titus?
