Renewable Water Sprinkler System

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

I am currently doing a project in school. I have to come up with a machine that collects water from rain and in turn sprinkle the plants at a specific time of the day.

However, no electrical and electronics properties are allowed to be used in this project. I have to solely rely on renewable energy to make the machine work.

I would appreciate it if you could help me out by giving me suggestions.

Thanks

Off-hand, the easiest (and most fun to produce) mechanism I can think of to do the job is a human being. Do you think your teacher might have loaded you with a trick question? Even if not, could you load him or her with a trick answer?

Use the weight of the water... perhaps a drip timer. Once enough water drips into a collector the weight opens a mechanical valve.

a humidity gauge,, put it in the soil.

A collection barrel high on a stand next to the roof, where it collects water from the guttering. Valve at bottom of barrel, which empties into hose leading to drip irrigation in garden. Valve opened by mechanical means via a wind-up alarm clock.
