Insect boring through the tomato plant stem.

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

I something boring through the stem of my tomato plants, does not touch the fruit of the plant, or the leaves, just the stem. I first noticed when tying up one of my plants the top of the tomato broke right of when I moved it. Today I noticed that the stem of another plant near the top had bore holes enought to wilt the top growth of the plant.

Type of cutworm or catepiller sounds like.

Sometimes placing aluminum foil around the plant stems, shiny side up, will keep the insects away. It seems insects are confused by the sunlight coming from below and want to just get away from the foil.
