Homestead "MRE" recipe (Kitchen (food preservation))

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

When you have leftover vegetable soup, puree it in a blender and put in in a fruit leather dehydrator tray and dry it. The finished product is a full meal nutritional leather that while looklng as bland as hard tack is tasty and easy to tote. A few veg soup leathers and jerky make a great emergancy food pack in a car or hiking snack pack.

Wow, Jay, what a neat idea! I'm going to try it sometime. Thanks!

I used to grind mine after the soup leathers were dry and send them to my daughter in college (that was almost 25 years ago) so that she could just add water and have a good meal.

Now that she is study for her Phd I will probably do that for her again.

They really are delicious. You do not just have to do veg. soup. I used to do chicken and beef soup the same way.
