something got one of our turkeys

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

I need some advice from some of you more experienced homesteaders out there. Something got into out turkey house 2 nights ago and actually took a 6-week old poulet and dragged it to the woods. (The children and I found the evidence the next morning). The critter made a hole in the chicken wire enclosing the eaves. (We have since put 1/2" hardware cloth over the chicken wire). There was tan fur inside the turkey house and outside on the roof where the poor baby was probably killed. I feel that a cat could do this as it looks like cat fur to me and we have a few that hang around sometimes (not ours). My DH disagrees, thinks a cat wouldn't take a turkey. Any other ideas?

Sounds like a bobcat or raccoon. Could have been a coyote or fox.

We have had racoons take turkeys and chickens right out from under our moveable chicken pens. They reach under and grab. Mary
