WHAT IS IT ? (Beetle?)

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

Around my yard I have found a small tiny hard shell insect. I do have erwigs as well, these other tenants are found on my concrete driveway as well in the pool yard. I notice that they can be found out in full force early in the morning and in damp areas. The insect will float on the water and lay on the kreepy crawler hose in the pool. As well many , many are found in the skimmer. Small brown hard shell and four legs , I believe. Oh yes, we thought they hopped, but I think they may have wings. Although usually I see them floating or crawling. Thanks folks in advance for your help. RA

Insects have 6 legs, so I am a little confused. Can you give a more complete discription? Is it like a beetle? Have antennae? does it swim? What part of the country do you live in? If you take one of those little things to your county extension office they will ID it for you. That's what we pay them for, put 'em to work! :-)

might be a 'waterbug' look at figure-6b on this link. lots of pictures of other bugs if it isn't that. http://pc65.frontier.osrhe.edu/hs/science/binsect.htm
