homemade granola bars

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

OK, I just looked through the 300+ entries in the archives under "country kitchen". You would think that would cover everything, but I didn't see a heading for homemade granola bars. Do you use granola cereal, or just oatmeal. thanks

Check out www.allrecipes.com then do a search on granola. There were several granola bar recipes.

I have a recipe for you! It is from Sandhill, a commune in NE Missouri.

GRANOLADELIC BARS

Dry Roast: seeds & nuts & rolled oats--sesame, pumpkin, sunflower, almonds...any combo you want.

Blend Together: gooey stuff--Sandhill sorghum or honey, nut butter of your favorite type, and vanilla or almond extract.

The ratio is 2/3 nuts/seeds/oats to 1/3 gooey stuff. About 6 cups dry + 2 gooey= 1 small pan of bars. (Hey, this is FUN math!) Mix wet and dry together, then adjust to a very stiff texture with ww flour. Spread in pan. Let sit. Refrigerate in hot weather. Cut into squares.
