another mosquito question

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

Hello again:

I've read and heard that vegetable oil (or oil with garlic) poured on the surface of a pond (about 1 cup per 10 sq feet) will kill mosquito larvae. Does this harm anything else in the pond (fish, ducks, etc?)

thanks in advance.

Can't answer about the harm, but I can assure you that it works - we did this (with a can of cheapo Pam-spray stuff) in our rain barrel that we use to water plants with. Killed 'em right nice, and trapped lots of adults, too.
