Cardboard Freezer Boxes

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

I've been looking for the cardboard freezer boxes, the kind that are sold flattened then you put tops and bottoms togather. They fit so well in the freezer and are easy to write on: date, product ect. Do they still make these boxes and where can I buy them.

Martha, My mom used them when I was a kid. The only ones I have been able to aquire I got at a yard sale. They look about 20 years old! Every year I re-use them and store for the next year. I hope you can find some. Kim

I found what appears to be a "freezer" friendly box source. My question is can/does this box system prevent freezer burn. The concept seems perfect for optimum use of freezer space.

Hi, in our area, meat markets that buy and sell in bulk have the boxes you speak of. They almost feel like there is a wax coating on them. As for freezer burn, I think you have to wrap items or seal-a-meal packages also, at least I sure would for items that would not be used real quick. I used several of these on a platform and then nailed to the wall for nesting boxes for hens, place straw in them and nail a gunny sack partly over the opening for privacy, hens love them, and they are very durable, almost water proof if an egg gets broken.
