Looking for a small dairy heifer in or near W.V.

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

Would love to find a small Jersey or Guernsey heifer to milk for family use. Even a young calf would be suitable. We lost our cow a couple of years ago, and haven't been able to find another in Southern W.V. Am willing to travel 5-6 hours if need be. I'd appreciate any leads.

I have a Jersey/Gelvbieh cross heifer. Two years old. Now breed to an Angus. Suppose to calve next spring, but I suspect she will pop before then. Got pregnant at eight-months. I aborted the calf. Her momma went about 750 pounds. Huge bag. Daddy was about 1,500 pounds. My guess is she'll go about 700 pounds now. Has not been halter trained, she is fairly friendly, but not nearly as much as her mother. I'm about an hour and a half drive west of Nashville, TN.

Truman check with the Dairy"s around your area, most Dairy"s around here will sell their milk cow"s when their milk level drops below 4 gallon aday. If all else fails go to the Cattle sales Jersey heifers usually are cheaper than holsteins around here (south central KY)you can usually buy Jerseys Heifers for 150.00 and up mostly 4 weeks old. Holsteins are usually 250.00 and up Good luck Keith

Truman, I saw an ad in The Ol' Mountain Trader this week for a young Jersey milk cow. I think it was located in the Sophia/Coal City area of Raleigh County. I will email the number to you privately. Terri
