The cement tank which collects water from our spring is leaking and we want to repair it with some material which will not add taste etc. to the water. any one have suggestions. We haven't worried about the leak before, but this year we have had very little rain. I have looked at some of the "plastic" tanks on the market and I noticed an odor like burning wax. Has any one had experience with these or any other water storage options.

Seems the best way would be to channel the water away from the tank and when its emptied past the crack, seal it with cement compound. Thats how we used to fix horse troughs that were poured concrete.

The OP gave you good advice on repairing your present tank. We have a 2500 gallon poly storage tank and have no problems with taste or odor. As long as a tank is approved for potable water there shouldn't be a problem with it. I think I'd try to repair the present tank first though. Good luck.

David,Quikrete makes a very good product called Hydraulic cement it will set up in water to patch the crack..There is also a similar product called Damntite both are very good for patching leaks,cracks,etc good luck Keith

Seems like this must be the season for leaks. We are having trouble as well with our water. Our problem is not the spring fed cistern but some of the piping that is connecting with the pump. Seems like there is a leak where the lines are entering the pumphose from the outside underground. If it is not one thing, it is another. Hubby is trying to figure out exactly where the leak is and what to do with it. Thanks for letting me vent!!!
