Pig Factories !!!!

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

Last week I asked fellow Countrysiders to send me any help in finding out about the new "Pig Factories" that have popped up all over the countryside in the last few year. Thank You for all that wrote to me. Boy, did I learn a thing or two !! Attended our local meeting about it last week and will another this week. I advise each of you to get together with your local township and find out all you can before one appears at your back door. I really had no opinion of them thinking a farm was a farm, dairy or pigs....boy was I suprised!!! Please learn all you can and be informed of what is happening in your area. We might live (or think) we live independently from each other but we really don't....all of our live connect somehow. Please get involved so that you can enjoy your Homestead with fresh air !!!! Thanks Again !!!!

You are so right. No longer can we just run off to our on little heaven and be free to just do our thing and not worry about what others do on the land surrounding our homesteads. Years ago that was possible partially because neighbors would never do something that would ever be considered truly an unneighborly act. And no one would have considered the mega farm where they produce thousand of head of pigs or feed out thousands of cattle per month. That was just not possible. Things have changed in the past fifty years and now we have to be on our guard. On the other hand I hear from people all the time that want to just go out on their little spot of heaven and do what ever they wish, do their own thing, disreguard the rules on septic systems, water systems and building codes and there by do their own polluting. Sorry but we are too many and too close together. You always have to remember that each of us have rights, and mine ends when they begain to infringe on yours. If I don't have a good septic system and it causes problems with your water supply, I have sure stepped on your rights. Now I suppose if I want to keep the sewage all on my property and store it in milk jugs that probably is my right as long as you can't smell or see it. Does anyone understand what I mean. Thanks
