Does anyone know of a dice game called "greed" (Entertainment/recreation)

My wife is trying to find out the rules of a game that her school freinds played in the 70s called "greed". It was played by multiple players using 5 dice and tallying points. Does anyone recall a dice game such as this?

Yeah Jay don't remember that the name of it we called it zilch but here goes; you roll the dice ( 5 of them ) and if you get 3 (2's through 6's) it is the amount of points example 3 2's 200 points 3 6's 600 points. 5's count as 50 points and a straight counts as 1500 points. example you rolled 3 2's and a 5 and a 6 = 250 points. you roll up till you zilch or you verbally say you stop. if you zilch you get nothing. Hope this makes sense to you. It alot of fun to play with a group of people We played it one New Years Eve.

Jacque,

Thanks for the info. It refreshed her memory, but Lynn had one other question. Is there a paticular dice value that has to be rolled to "get on the board" at the beginning of play? She couldn't remember if that was part of this game or some other.

There is a simular, if not the same game still available today called yatzee, (if I am spelling it right). Score card are filled out with value assined to different dice combinations using 5 dies.

Jay,

I remember playing this game several years ago. We knew it as "Farkle" and yes, when we played it, you needed 1500 points to get on the board at the beginning of play. But I'm uncertain if that is part of the official rules of the game.

Here are a couple URL's for PC versions of the game. The first link also has instructions online on how to play.

Have fun!

Thanks for all the tips. We checked out all the information and sorta devised a "customized" version that kept us all on the edge of our chairs for over three hours last night.

Hi Jay,

We call the game "zonk". We have the same point values that Jacque mentioned with the addition that ones count as on hundred. Three ones is 1000. You either have to roll a one (100) or a five (50) or three of a kind to continue rolling. If you didn't get any of those you "zonked". You have to make five hundred points to get on the board. In other words, you had to have 500 before your points could start adding up. After you get on the board any of your rolls will count as long as you don't "zonk". I think we play to about 5000 but that is adjustable.

I hope this helps.

Hi Jay - We also call this game Farkle and we play the game most weekends with neighbors. Lots of screaming and hollering is part of the game although it is not mentioned in the rules :) Here is a link to the rules, but we have changed them up a bit. http://www.centralconnector.com/GAMES/farkle.html

I have that game actually. A canister that contains a green cloth and 5 dice with the letters 'g' 'r' 'e' 'e' 'd' on different faces. I never played it with regular dice as it was a packaged game when I played. Unfortunately I don't have the instructions anymore, and I too, am searching for the instructions. It wasn't really like yhatzee... well, sort of, but anyway. Good luck with the rules.
