What to do with a baby wood duck

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

We found a baby wood duck in some rebar at the concrete plant this morning. No mama, no siblings, no nest, just the baby.

Will this wood duck (maybe 3 days old) need different care than a domestic duck? He's under a heat lamp, and has bread with milk and water available. (He sure is little)

Anybody ever raise a wood duck???

Hey Marty, I would not think a wood duck would be any different to raise than mallards and we have done that. Get some UNMEDICATED chick starter and place it in a saucer and have water available. I usually put the water a little ways away from the feed, as they make such a mess of the whole thing otherwise.

I think we may have had the smae thing--but we found 10 in our garage! ( I have a post up here about it somewhere). here's a 20 sec video of them (http://darkmare.pittsburgh.pa.us/ducks2.html )
