Our favorite place in the Charleston-Folly Beach area is without a doubt Bowen's Island. It is about a half mile off Folly Rd, just before crossing the inlet to Folly (or just after leaving Folly); just keep driving until you see water and there it is. It has been open since the 40s, run by descendents of the same family. Lots of oysters (steamed), served by the shovel-fulls, as well as traditional coastal fare such as Frogmore Stew, Shrimp & Grits, etc. Very rustic, but worth developing a taste for! Sweet tea and beer too.
