Grapes (muskadines )any tips on growing?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

I just bought two muskadine vines, one gold and one purple. Any tips for planting or care would be appreciated. I have picked a spot and will get some trellis tomorrow for them to climb on.Haven't put them in the ground yet. They are about four feet tall and already have groups of buds on them. Thanks, Jimmy

Surf the web for a university in your state that has an extension bulletin on the topic. They can tell you what you need to know and the info will be specific for your soil type and climate.

Here in Alabama when using native strains of muscodine, we had best results bedding them in a fertile mix and training them along a horizontal wire trellace about 4 ft off the ground. As others have suggested, contact your local agricultural service and universities for local growing information.
