I need information to build a small fusion welder

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Resistance Welding : One Thread

I am a jewelry manufacturer and need a welder to tack precious metal parts together. There are a number of units available on the market but I am interested in building a unit. Most of the systems utilize off the shelf "findings " with sacraficial material located at the point of impact. Tack welding units with an automated jigging system are too expensive and I am certain one could be built very affordably. Any ideas on this subject are quite welcome.

Dear Michael

I'm not quite sure of the off the shelf type you refer, or exactly the parts you wish to weld together. However, before deserting purchasing standard equipment, you might want to e-mail our used equipment department. There are many pieces of used equipment in stock that may fill your needs at substantial savings.

Also-- since this may be such a specialized piece of equipment you are looking for (maybe not stocked by many), looking for a used unit from someplace like eBay would be better than building your own. Are you sure you want to start wiring up transformers and timers, etc, etc?

Something that would help would be some website links to commercial equipment that does the same job. This would clear up what you are trying to do.

Even then, I'm not sure what those of us who read this forum will know-- but we will try if you track down some more info!
