We roast our pigs in an underground oven so I don't know about plans to build a roaster out of a 500 gallon oil drum. BUT-you might try this site http://dmoz.org/Home/Cooking/Outdoors/Barbecue_and_Grilling/ Look under Bbqsource.com when you get there. Hope this helps!!

I am guessing that the 500 gallon oil tank is used. If it is, be very careful. The chemicals released from the oil soaked metal, during roasting of the pig are very harmful.

plans This site is about constructing a double barreled smoker and is probably adaptable to a single barrel one.

I have a friend who has a roaster made out of one of those and it is wonderful! He has it on a sled and the top opens - the front has double doors and there is a flash pan at the bottom I'll see if he has the plans or maybe I can get some pics. Are you still looking?
