Look in the archives in the gardening catagory and you'll find a few discussions on it from last year. One forum participant posted a thread titled DE INFO -1 What is Diatomaceous Earth? . This and the others read like a school text on the subject. Hope this helps.

Fancier the title is so that one can put it in the search engine in yu computor so put in Diatomaceous Earth and you will get all kinds of information Also go to http://www.poultryconnection and ask them about DE It is good for getting the insects off yur garden plants sprinkle when wet the plants and have a mask on for it is fine powder. Only food grade DE is good for feeding to poultry and animals in their feed. You can email Gladys Miller from Lousiana glglmiler@aol.com she sells it fo $18.00 for 17 pound bucket plus postage. Also she has articles on how to use for goat worming and good health. It is fed to chickens the same way and for worms, lice, mites. Also Bill Worrell of Briar patch farm of Virginia sells DE, Kelp, GArlic powder and more for good health of birds and animals. showpoultry@valink.com his web site can be found under Briar Patch on http://www.poultryconnection.com and he is listed up on the left side under sponsors both these folks are good and honest.They are the most cheaply priced for small and lrge amounts of DE. It is the natural way to keep healthy stock and gardens free of pests. DE works on the skins of the soft skined bugs and worms as it it skeltal remains of fossils. Thus DE is called Fossil Flour. If you can't find food/agricultural grade Diatomaceous Earth in your local feed store or organic gardening center, I have found (so far) that this company has the best shipping prices. Just remember, if shipping a 50 pound bag, it costs as much or more for the shipping price as the price of the DE.

I'm using it on the dogs & chickens as a dust and I mix it in the chicken's grit, free choice; I use it on the goats for lice control. My only question is just how much do you give a dog orally? Is this a daily thing, or once a week? dh in nm

DE is fed daily. My large livestock eat it out of a bucket. For the chickens, I mix it into the feed (5% of their feed). I also sprinkle it in the chicken pens so there's no odor, and also leave piles of it around for the birds to dust bathe. They've never had mites. The dogs prefer it mixed with a bit of corn oil. You can't overdose food grade DE, but if you don't give the proper amount, your critters won't be dewormed.

Dogs over 35 pounds get one tablespoon daily. Dogs under 35 pounds, puppies and cats get one teaspoon daily.
