Could anyone tell me where I could find a good hammered dulcimer that is not too expensive? I was at a local craft fair and there was someone there playing a dulcimer and I fell in love with the sound of it and want to learn how to play one. Any inf would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

I was shocked to find a Dustry Springs at the local bluegrass store was 500 smackers, 4 years ago. There was a nice music place in Bar Harbor Maine on the main drag that might be of help somehow. Look for a used one.

If you have access to news.abs.net newsgroups there is a group named rec.music.makers.dulcimer.

They are fun to play and it is easy to make delightful music with one. Good luck.

May 1st.... ***I play hammered dulcimer. We bought our first at a fair in Kutztown, Pa, in the summer of 88 or so. The company was out of Connecticut. Since then a fellow in NY gave me one. Then my wife and I found them in a store in Black Mountain, NC. Then I ordered one from a fellow in Texas, named Russell Cook (national champion, I might add) but we feel that his real expertise is in design and construction.
