Homesteading in Louisiana now!

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

Hello all! Randy and I are in Louisiana now, outside of Lafayette, and settling in to our new homestead. The chickens will be here the beginning of next week, and we are rototilling the garden space this week. We'll miss the early crops, but I'm going to grow everything I can manage anyway. We've got space for two veggie gardens (square foot method, thanks to Jay) and an herb garden, and we're trying to set aside some space for ducks as well. I guess I'm really going to have to learn to can, so wish me luck. We're cooking venison now, and I haven't poisoned anyone yet. YAY! I hope everyone is well- I haven't had time to go through all the posts and catch up. Jay and Lynn- let us know how the raised beds are doing. Stay tuned for many questions re: the chicks. I'm afraid I'm going to do it wrong. : )
