Show trial, anyone? What if they charge the US pilots with murder?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unk's Wild Wild West : One Thread

Can't you just see it?

They could keep the crew as "witnesses". Keep the plane as "evidence". Drag it out for years and cripple this administration the same way the Soviets did with Gary Powers, the North Koreans did with the Pueblo crew, and the Iranians did with our Embassy staff. And they could make it look oh so legal.

If that Mig-21 pilot didn't get his head diced by the #1 prop, they may kill him just for the funeral. A National Hero!

If nothing else, they may sit on the plane just to see what sort of damage control the US intel community engage in. That can be very informative.

And of course they would admit the ROC tapes of the pilots (See Drudge)threatening to shoot down the EP-3 as evidence of ROC complicity.

Well, time will tell. But a China trade embargo would affect your day to day life alot more than realize.

And remember that

Dumbya is gonna do something really stupid, and we will all be vaporized. I just know it. Have you ever seen anything look THIS dumb???

This is bad. At least Clinton could have called in a couple of favors.

Now that the PRC’s ‘Howdy Doody’ has opened shop in Harlem, they will not be coddled any longer. We need to be very assertive and let them know a new Sheriff is in town.

Trade Embargo?’ A small sacrifice to pay unless you are waiting on an organ transplant. President Bush….kick some ass!!!

This stuff usually involves a trade of some sort. Biggest problem we have with the Chi-coms is we've nothing left interesting that they don't have.

Wrong Mr. Carlos, we have everything they need….customers!

Operative word Socs is "interesting".

Clinton was no dummy. He knew the Chinese are a serious threat and he cozied up to them while in office just so he *could* call in some favors if the Dems stayed in power and the situation ever warranted. After all, it makes sense to "keep your friends close and your enemies closer."

Clinton was a shrewd diplomat even if he couldn't keep his zipper closed. That proclivity will seem inconsequential by time Dumbya gets through trashing the country. Our shit-kickin' Cowboy in Chief - the guy who gleefully smirked at the mention of Texas executions - is probably chomping at the bit to kill off some "Commie Chinks".

And consider how a war would boost the sagging economy! By jove, this is the answer to all his problems!

"This is bad. At least Clinton could have called in a couple of favors. "

Clinton ain't no dum dum. He knew the Chinese could whip up serious foofoo and he schmoozed up to them while living in that big white house up there in Washy DeeCee just so he *could* call in some of the World Famous chinese acrobats if the Dems were able to steal the election and he had nothing better to do. After all, it makes sense to "urinate on your friends and buddy up with your enemies." Clinton was my kind of peep even if he thought Monica was 'da bomb. I hate 'dubya' so I will scribble all sorts of stupid things wherever I go. Our party pooping Cowboy in Chief - the guy who shoots criminals from the back of his pickup truck - is probably yodeling pig calls at the chance to see the Chinese acrobats. And consider how a war would boost the sagging economy! If he has watched the past Democrats, he could have learned this trick from them!!!!

I really didn't want to be right about this.

They're going to force the US and Taiwan to publish super secret elint recordings and video to prove what happened. And then they'll say they are fake.

Last I heard, the "Iron Sides" version of the P-3 had real-time data uplink capability, so I suspect we have a play-by-play hidden here somewhere. (Though I'm not sure which P-3 they have.) And I guarantee you the Chinese will NEVER release the P-3's black box.

Click goes the ratchet.

The end of Act One

http://www.gertzfile.com/InsidetheRing.html

April 13, 2001 Notes from the Pentagon

....

EP-3E upgrade One reason the Pentagon is so intent on getting back the EP-3E now parked on the runway at Hainan's Lingshui airfield is that the intelligence-gathering equipment on board was some of the U.S. intelligence community's most advanced gear. The EP-3E was one of several of the 11 signals-intelligence planes to receive a recent upgrade package. "It recently got some new equipment," one official told us.

Initial debriefings of the released crew indicate the 22 sailors, one airman and one Marine managed to do a good job of destroying the equipment before landing April 1.

Intelligence officials said the Chinese military sent about 100 technicians to pore over the aircraft after its arrival.

What was on board? Rear Adm. John Nathman, the Navy's director of air warfare, stated in an article in June that one upgrade being added to the EP-3E squadron is known as the Sensor System Improvement Program (SSIP). "SSIP incorporates new tactical communications, electronic support measures and special signal processing and exploitation systems," Adm. Nathman said in the publication Naval Aviation News.

A second major EP-3E improvement that was on board the downed plane is the Joint Signals Intelligence Avionics Family Block Modernization Program (JMOD). The EP-3E JMOD comes in three "blocks," or versions.

According to Adm. Nathman, the first one improves onboard handling and processing of signals, and a second version adds a low-band subsystem and improves data fusion through what is known as Common Data Link, "which provides crucial connectivity for network centric warfare," Adm. Nathman said. The third version "adds a precision targeting system," he said.

The exact version of the JMOD upgrade on the EP-3E held by the Chinese could not be learned, but officials said it was at least one of the three.
