Right now i am reading the book, "The Land, The People" by Rachel Peden.

It is a book about rural life through a farm wife's eyes. It was wrote in 1966 and is a very entertaining read. I got my copy at a used book store. Maybe we could start a book swap.

Marie, if you like Rachael Peden, you should look for a copy of Rural Free. It's a journal of a country year, starting in September. This was the first "country book" I ever read (back in the late 60's) and it was my inspiration for all those city years. I used to read it about once a year, but lately I'm living it, not needing to read about it. Come to think of it, I need to re-read it. Like visiting an old friend. Does anyone know if Ms. Peden is still living? She used to write for a few midwestern newspapers.

This week I'm reading "Lori: My Daughter Wrongfully Imprisoned in Peru" by Rhoda Berenson. It's keeping me up late reading and giving me bad dreams when I do go to sleep, but I'll read every word. It's a heartbreaking story of a young woman who was living in Peru and apparently was somehow associated with the wrong people at the wrong time. It's not only about the details of her arrest and imprisonment, but also a strong story of a mother-daughter relationship. When I'm finished, I plan to send it to my mother to read, just in time for mother's day. Not exactly a homesteading book, but you asked.....

I'm reading several books right now, including one by Luther Burbank,"The Harvest of the Years". I haven't gotten very far into it yet, but so far it is very interesting. It starts out with a biography of the great plant breeder's childhood and young adulthood. It tells about milestones in his career and the varieties he bred, and how he did it.
