I'm trying to find an old book but don't know the name

I'm trying to find a book. My friend remembers a book her sister had befor her house burned down. It was writen by two women. One ran the house and the other ran the barn yard. It has everything from livestock to canning ect. All about how ladys can do jobs on there own. If anyone has any idea what the book is called or who wrote it I'd be grateful for the help.

Kim, I wish I could help you - sounds like a good book. I'll keep a lookout for it. Nina

Could this possibly be it? It was written in the 70s by two women (in California, I think) and besides the homesteading they talked about womens meetings, relationships, self-actualization and self- concept (this was during women's lib, can you tell??) I've got a copy of the book at home.

Country Women : A Handbook for the New Farmer by Sherry Thomas

If you can give more details about the book I might be able to help. The only other ones I can think of with this info are the Stillmeadow books by Gladys Taber, but they weren't homesteading, just country living.

I also think it was probably Country Women Book. I just loved that book when we started homesteading. Actually took it into the barn and garden daily. Still can borrow it from local library or maybe put a request on the Forum or how about going onto one of the Auction Web pages like E-bay and asking for help. They also published magazines if remember right...not the fancy Country Woman magazine that is on the news stands today. Never actually saw a copy of that. I would like to know whatever happened to those women in that book ?? Anyone know ?? Good Luck on you book hunting !!

I did the search using the author's name.

Hi thanks for the help. I'm going to show the list to my friend and see if she reconizes anything. We would realy like to find it.

I have that book! and what a wonderful book it is. Whenever I get "down and out" about homesteading, I can read a chapter and get inspired again. The illustrations in the book are informative and the language is written where a person who knows NOTHING about homesteading can figure out how to do the job. Covers everything from locating a homestead, finding water, repairing chainsaws, livestock and gardening. It is a treasure if you can find one. I still have mine and use it regularly. I too wonder whatever happened to those two women and I did a web search but had no success in locating either. If anyone knows, please post here.
