Earth Friendly Resource Sites

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

I wanted to share two web sites that I find to be very interesting in the field of alternatives to the usual.

1. www.deatech.com/cobcottage - a small outfit in Cottage Grove, Oregon offers books and gives workshops all over the country on constructing buildings and outdoor ovens from cob (sand, mud, straw - not corn, oats, barley!). A fun site and very informative, lots of pictures - cob is a real do-it-yourself project.

2. Recycling Tires - www.tirecrafting.com - offers a booklet and video on several projects using old tires. I ordered the booklet and it is FULL of ideas: retaining walls, toys, planters, livestock feeders, raised garden beds - it's worth the price if you have an interest in recycling old tires.

Re-use and recycle! 2.

LOVE the cob site!! Thanks!! Hubby and I want to build just as soon as we get our land and can possibly come up with money for the building materials... Already were thinking about straw... Wow...!!!!!
