Indoor Chimney Cap?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

Where use to be a wood burner-there is a metal cap in the wall which convers a hole in the side of the chimney. It looks like the bottom of a paper plate with a picture in the inner circle. It also has wires on the back to hold it in the chimney. What is this called? Where can I get another one to replace it? Are there different sizes? How do I measure it? (It's all rusted through) Thanks Again, Fred

I don't remember what they are called, but yes, there are different sizes and different scenes available on them. My local Ace Hardware store carries them. Lehman's on line would have them as well.

They are called Flue Hole Covers.

Measure the diameter.

Ya, measure the inside of the flue pipe and get one to fit at ace, but one caution. If that flue is used for any other appliance attached to another inlet to that flue, if you ever get a chimney fire that cover will not seal that opening permitting air to worsen the flue fire.
