Looking for kitchen sink with drainboards

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

Hello everyone, I am asking here as sort of a last resort, figuring that Countryside folks have wide experience and can maybe help me find the kind of kitchen sink that we really want in our newly remodelled kitchen--well, it will be newly remodelled when we are done, now it is in the "terrible mess" stage. We are looking for a stainless steel sink with two bowls or basins of typical kitchen sink size and depth, not the super deep commercial type, but with attached integral drainboards on one or both sides. I have seen some of these that were up to 5 or 6 feet long, maybe more, but I am having a terrible time finding a supplier for them. I have spent hours searching on the internet, and have come away dismayed at the poor web sites that some suppliers have, making it timeconsuming and difficult to use their sites. Any help or suggestions (or a good used sink) would be greatly appreciated.

Any good plumbing shop should have supplier catalogs that can show you just whant you want. Problem is, the plumber is going to want to sell you the item with a nifty profit.

I would also suspect a good home building or remodeling contractor might also have catalogues showing you the same items.

Good luck.

That was the first thing that I did, call plumbers, check at the home centers, etc., before trying to find one on the internet.

That is why I am asking here.

Jim, you might try places that supply resturants or even salvage places. My folks have exactly what you are talking about in their home except that it is not stainless steel. It is about 50 years old though.

We got our stainless steel double sink with drain board at an auction at a University. Resturants and diaries going out of business are another good place to look. We also have a big salvage business in Houston that you can find this type of thing at, they go into homes and businesses and tear down selling anything and everything of value. Vicki

Jim, As long as you're in western Wisconsin you might try a couple of salvage places in the Twin Cities.

Hi Jim ~ Elkay makes stainless steel sinks, including ones with drainboards. They have a website: www.elkay.com But you're right about it being hard to navigate around and find out information. Your best bet would probably be to request information (click CONTACT US). I don't know where in western part of the state you are located, but apparently there are stores in Eau Claire and Altoona. Probably one in LaCrosse as well. Sadly, they aren't cheap, at least the models that I was able to spot (under the gourmet line) -- I think they might have a less expensive line that has drainboards as well, but I'm not sure.

You might try the plumbing places with the name "Elkay" and see if they have any catalogs you can look at. It is sad, but it often seems that you have to educate the vendors! When my mother was remodelling, she would tell me what product she wanted that her builder said couldn't be gotten. I would then track it down (and this was before I had a computer!). I don't think her builder liked me too well -- I made him look bad too many times. Anyway, the stuff is out there, and you can't count on the vendors to find it for you.
