VCD playing on Windows media Player

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

Hi,

I've been viewing movie VCDs on my computer, using the Windows Media Player. But I have some problem viewing the latest VCD i've got, which was actually manufactured in '94, as the media player don't recognise the 'file format'. The movie file is in .DAT format, and I supected that maybe it's because I've upgraded my IE to 5.5 from 5, a few days ago (it upgraded my mplayer to ver. 6.4). So I d/l'ed mplayer 7.0, but still I have the same problem. Really, I'm quite confused b/c I could play these VCDs with maplyer b4...is it possible that the newer versions are not made compatible with the older .DAT formats?

1. Power down and re-start in DOS mode 2. Type scanreg/restore 3. Restore

I had the same problem and solved it this way. I am not sure it work for you and your system.
