It ain't always kids that go bad.

Just today two white males (1)65 the other 58 were caught breaking and entering into a neighbors shed. These men were driving a nice caddy. The locale gossip noticed the strange car and phoned it in. For the first time in 10 years a county car was within 20 minutes of this community. They caught the men who offered no fight. They were attempting to steal antique farm equipment. From what I've heard so far neither man needed money. They were just "Crooks". Goes to show you have to beware of everyone Not just young folk.

My dogs barked all night last night. So they may have been canvasing my place. I walked the property line and found several footprints in the red mud. No idea whom made them. This makes for a bad feeling about leaving the property for a few days. (however) I have no choice as my wife is having surgery. I'll just have to trust that the dogs and the gate keep out the riff raff.

This is one of the times I wish my family was like the Sackets in Louis LAmour's westerns.

:)

Kenneth: Can you notify the sheriff's office that you will be gone and that you are concerned, and ask for some extra patrols? Might or might not act as a deterrent. Good luck, and hope your wife will recover quickly. Jan

Finally a good use for the local gossip(couldn't resist)! I agree that asking the sheriff to keep an eye on your place would be a good idea. This reminds me of when I worked in a pretty fancy grocery store in a rather rich community in St Louis. This chain had stores throughout the St Louis area but amazingly enough our store had the highest shop lifting rate. Cosmetics were always getting lifted....the funny thing is the women that stole them weren't hurting for money(you should have seen some of the diamond rings that went through that store!). We caught most of them on surveilance cameras but nothing was done about it. The manager explained to me that because of the neighborhood dynamics they would loose more money by loosing customers if they prosecuted! I promise you that I don't understand why anyone would do this sort of thing....especially when they have the money to honestly purchase it. Something to do with the thrill....forbidden fruit I suppose. I think folks have too much free time on their hands and life is too easy for them.

My first thought was also the sheriffs dept...how about a housesitter? Is there anyone you know and trust that you could ask? A relative maybe(although they could be the worse thieves you come across). I know those footprints are scarry for you but could be another somebody nosing around. Hope everything stays safe while you are gone and wishing you and yours the best with the upcoming surgery.

Thanks everyone. I called the sheriff dept. They said that we are so far out that if a car came by once a day that was the best they could do. If my aunt comes in from California she'll stay here. (other than a uncle about all the family I can trust).

My neighbor is bringing his German Shepard to rome the front yard maybe that'll act as a deterrent.

My wife said keep good thoughts about the operation.

Thanks again.

A quick update: My wife made it through surgery. The doctor DID NOT obey her wishes and now she may have to go through the precedure again in about 8 months. Were going to check and see if NC has a "policy" on un-necessary surgery and failure to complete agreement or other medical law. She thanks you for your prayers, and warm wishes. (Me too)
