No question, just a hand clap (solar assisted housing development)

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

Just read that shea homes is offering 100 new homes with solar and 160 with the option of solar in there new development in san diego. They have wanted to offer solar homes for a while but couldnt find a solar panel which didnt leak or stick out to far. Sun systems of Arizonia has one now which is leak proof and sits flush with roof so it looks like a sky light. This is definitaly a step in the right direction, hope others follow suit.Lets here it for Shea homes clap, clap, clap.

i saw that. now, as paul harvey says, the rest of the story.

the price range is $400,000 to $600,000 bucks. thats right folks, basically a half-million, give or take a few bucks either way. land is basically all used up in san diego county, what is left is beyond obscenely priced. gee for that price, maybe i will buy two lol......just kidding. i couldn't even afford the electric bills out there.

Lynn, in the artical it said it cost about 6000 for solar per house, Gene, I agree that the houses are way over priced but if developers keep doing solar the prices for people like you and me who want to add it to their homes will drop.

Out my way (south of Raleigh by about 45 minutes) in NC there's a whole McVillage (or it could be an exceptionally well designed projects) wherein all of the houses, that I can see from the road anyway, have solar panels on them. Nifty!
