White Wash

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

I want to whitewash the front of my home which is brick. I was told there was some type of "formula" that is used. Does anyone know what that might be?

Thanks for any information on this.

This is one I have: boil 3/4 lb rice and 1/2 lb sugar in 7 pt. water until rice is completely desolved, cool sufficently that 1 pt. of raw skimmed milk can be mixed inthen add, mixing well, hydrated lime until thickness is that of thin paint, it says you could add zinc sulfate for more white-ness

Check out the Contruction category in the archives. There are about a half-dozen threads on making whitewash there.

I thought I remembered seeing this done with lime and water. Maybe someone else knows the mixture used.

I've a book that says...

into 1 gallon water, mix 2 pounds salt, and slowly stir in 7 pounds hydrated lime.

Hope this helps.
