Planting 'California Giant Garlic'

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

I just purchased garlic for my garden spot and need some information on proper planting. Do I need to divide the bulbs into the small cloves and plant each one of these or do I need to plant the entire bulb? The bulbs are larger than golf balls and have small green sprouts on several of the cloves. At havesting time do you remove the entire harvest or do you leave some in the ground for next years crop? Thanks

Separate the cloves. Harvest entire crop and hang to dry in well ventilated, dark place. It's not very dark where I hang it. Fall planting is best for harvest in early July at least here in Indiana. It will grow 2-3 feet high and the leaves will curl and turn brownish when ready to harvest at least here in Indiana:~}. I'm still using what I harvested last July.

Debbie where did you purchase it? Has anybody ordered it via any of the mail addresses in the back of Countryside and been pleased with the quality of the bulbs? Vicki
