Vitamins/Minerals Question

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

I read somewhere a long time ago that you were not supposed to take one certain vitamin at the same time as another because they essentially cancel each other out and then both are just wasted. For the life of me I can't remember which one. Does anyone on the forum know which ones you can't take with others? I'd appreciate any help.

calcium will decrease absorption of iron. Don't take them together.

I may be wrong but I to the best of my knowledge vitamin E and C work together, not against each other. The combination that I did hear to avoid is vitamin E and iron. Vitamin E is an antioxidant and iron has an oxidizing effect...cancelling out the vitamin E's effect. If you eat canned foods (store bought) check out the iron supplements added to them. Some types of canned beans can contain a whole days iron requirement. And for the males reading this post: you should know that elevated levels of iron in the bloodstream have been implicated in an increased risk of heart attack, and also prostate cancer.

Iam, I know that if you take vitamin C with iron, that the iron will increase in strength about 10 times! Sincerely, Ernest www.communities.msn.com/livingoffthelandintheozarks
