Pencil Cob Corn Source

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

I have found one source for pencil cob corn..Redwood Gardens and they are out of seed. My neighbor has been trying for two years to get this seed. Can anyone help me find this seed for him? I have checked with Heirloom seeds and other seed exchanges but came up empty.

Is this an edible, or ornamental corn?

It is an old time "field" corn according to my neighbor, that has a small ear, white kernels. Supposedly came out of Tennessee, although the Tenn. Dept. Of Agr. hasn't ever heard of it. When the kernels are removed it looks exactly like the old fat pencils used in elementary school ions ago.. even tapers down to a dark point resembling lead..really something to see. No sweetness to it whatsoever but the old timers ate it.
