Cute Goat Story

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

I wanted to share a story about my goat Lindsay, but I wasn't sure where I should post it.So after thinking about for several minutes it finally broke down. I decided to just make a new subject. For a word of the warning,I won't do this often ;-). When we first got Lindsay she was really little. So as a habbit of carrying around small animals we carried her all over the place. She thought this was pretty neat! So,as she got older she expected to be carried around. Granted she's a Pygmy Goat. So thankfully she wasn't very big. We stopped carrying her so much when she gained weight, she didn't like this idea. So she would just come up and sit in our laps! And stay there, until we kind of nudged her to give her the idea that we needed to do something other then sit there petting her. So,she earned the nickname of 'Lindsay the Amazing Lap Goat'. Anyway,I couldn't help but share it. If anyone else has a cute goat story,I'd love to hear it! :->

We had a pair of Nubian kids last summer that were given the run of the yard. Turned into terrible pests. One of their "cute" tricks was to jump in the wheelbarrow, and dh would give them a ride. Now they are 6 months old and weigh around 75-85 lbs. They are now penned up, but whenever they get loose, like when we're cleaning stalls, into the wheelbarrow they go. We also have adult does (150-190 lbs.) that will occasionally still try to climb into my dh's lap.

We had one doe that loved snacks - would eat about anything. One summer afternoon I took some tortilla chips, a large bowl of hot salsa and a 2 glasses of wine out to the picnic table for dh and I. We were sitting there nibbling away when "Misha" strolled over. Dh started feeding her tortilla chips. Misha looked at the other goodies on the table, shoved us both out of her way and leaped onto the table. She drained the entire bowl of salsa and stood there looking at us, smacking her lips, with salsa running down her chin. Apparently the heat from the salsa set in, as she then grabbed dh's still full wine glass and drained that as well!

I have 5 pygmies and they are so cute!!!! One of them hollers "maaama" I'm serious, this goat calls me Mama. It must be from hearing the children call me. ;-)Mine love the wheelbarrow also, I have not had salsa around to see what they would do though. They just might like it. I tried sugar cubes last night, trying to cheer up a sad doe that lost her baby, but none of the goats were interested. Go figure, they munch dead trees, but don't want a sugar cube. lol

The first spring we had kids, I went into the barn one rainy afternoon and was surprised at the sight of a bouncing goat. It was on the other side of a solid fence from me and seemed to be bouncing way too high. I looked over the fence to find that the big steer had come into the coop and was laying against the gait, peacefully chewing his cud as this kid bounced up and down on top of him.

Oh my! It must be interesting watching a goat in a wheelbarrow! ;-) I can only imagine! I thought Lindsay was an interesting goat! I don't think she'd like salsa though! ;-)

One of our first bucks had a severe underbite; his bottom teeth jutted out from beyound his upper lip, kinda like some bulldogs. He had a terrific pedigree, with a spiffy name, but we called him "Gordo." Sweet fella, and threw pretty kids, tho a bit short in the top line---but ANYWAY. One day I went out to do chores, and one of the bottom front teeth was MOVING, in and out, in and out, with his breath. I figured he must have bumped it on the hay rack or something, but I was afraid he woould infale the silly thing, and choke on it. So I gently reached over, grasped his "beard", and reached for the tooth. I just knew he would fight me! But it lifted right out, like a key out of a slot. No blood, nuthin'. He just looked up at me adoringly, with that comical gap in the row of teeth, like a first grader, with me a-holdin' onto his beard.

LOL I think he must've looked pretty cute ;-) Our Billy Goat is just now starting to get his beard. He looks SOOOOO Cute!!!!!!! :-D We just call him 'Billy' since he didn't like any of the other names we picked for him. He wouldn't come to anything but Billy! Silly Goat! :-D He's a real cutey. He likes to pretend he's a rough tough goat. But he can't last a day without getting a good rub. LOL Happy Goat Watching! ;-)

Sixteen years ago, I had two young bucks that could jump--I mean really jump! They could stand next to the car and jump on the roof of it with out any problems....Well, we decide that my husband would take them to the sale. He hooked up the trailer and loaded the bucks. The phone rang---they needed him to come to work! I had already gotten dressed for work( a designer skirt and jacket)! He explained that all I had to was to drive up to the sale and back up to the gate and would not need to change my clothes--then I could go to work! Well, I thought that would be great so off I went! Got up there and stop to back up and one of the bucks jumps over the SIX foot trailer gate and starts to run off! Jump out and start to call and run after him. I was afraid he would get in the road and get killed or cause an accident! I chased that darn goat through blackberry bushes--through old grape vines ---down the side of the road up the bank--well you get the picture. Finally, I gave up--one of my heels were broke, pantyhose ripped off, skirt tore and dragging. I was not a pretty site. I started up the hill and here cames the buck running after me for dear life! I ran in to the gate and he followed! I just happened to look over and there were three or four old men who were laugh their a-- off! I got to the truck and got in and started off and one says When are you binging more goats! I laugh now! My husband loves this story!!! He tells everyone about My first trip to the goat sale!!!!
