Jacksonville,Florida on 3.6 acres and it has to be my chickens as my favorite "homesteady" thing!!!

-- Sandy(FL.) (MANDARINHILLBILLYS@prodigy.net), January 08, 2001.

West Plains Missouri. Definately rural....5 miles down a dirt road at the end stuck up on a ridge. 16 partially wooded acres that are my idea of Eden. My milk cow would definately be my favorite....bees are a close second.

-- Amanda in Mo (aseley@townsqr.com), January 08, 2001.

Rural.3 acres.NW Florida.Would be hard pressed to choose between goats and garden.

-- JT (gone2seed@hotmail.com), January 08, 2001.

Sanbornton, NH, rural (ten miles out of town if we go the back way), on fourteen acres. Favorite thing, the goats.

-- Kathleen Sanderson (stonycft@worldpath.net), January 08, 2001.

Windsor, NY--rural 113 acres with a log cabin. I'd have to say that my Nubian goat (just got her today!) and chickens would be my most homesteady thing, but I'll always love my horses the most.

-- Stacy Rohan (KincoraFarm@aol.com), January 08, 2001.

Mich,, rural, my bees,, and watching all the DAMN wild turkeys around this week

-- Stan (sopal@net-port.com), January 08, 2001.

Rural. My favorite thing besides leaning out the door and saying good morning to the horses, is it being so quiet that I can hear the surf crashing on the beach 4 miles away.

-- Laura (gsend@hotmail.com), January 08, 2001.

We are in the boonies, in a rural town with a population of maybe 50 on a nice day!! We own most of the town----so we have plenty of land/ & orchards. My favorites are my ducks & geese & chickens & herb garden. Sonda in Ks.

-- Sonda (sgbruce@birch.net), January 08, 2001.

We are so far back in we're lost.Lonesome holler,KY. The farm itself I value the most. From it, all else is derived.I waited a long time to put down my roots,at a place I felt I could truely call "home".

South Dakota - Rural - 59 acres - the most homesteady thing is when after feeding 25 bottle lambs, it is almost next to God to watch them eat their hay and romp around in the peace of the barn.

-- JoAnn (jonehls@excite.com), January 08, 2001.

2+ acres rural, couldn't choose between chickens and garden.

-- Jackie, Acorn Hill (jlynne@neato.com), January 08, 2001.

rural 1 acre just out side small town barn chicken house no critters like best garden and friends Bob in s.e.ks

-- Bobco (bobco@hit.net), January 08, 2001.

Residential, 6 acres in Northwest New Jersey. (everything is getting residential here) My favorite thing is my new parakeet. Homesteady, reading by the woodstove in the winter and in the hammack by the pond in the summer. I'll be having my first goat babies this spring.

-- Dee (gdgtur@goes.com), January 08, 2001.

17 miles north of Sandpoint Idaho. Mountain Home. Homesteady is my girls (chickens) and my sweet goats...

oh yeah..like my hubby too!

-- Cher Rovang (fullcircle@nidlink.com), January 08, 2001.

50 acres, mostly wooded about 2 1/2 hours northwest of New York City. Quite rural here, I think I like the woods right outside the door the best. Wish it was better farmland, but the woods are beautiful.

-- Rod Perrino (redjouster@aol.com), January 08, 2001.

Heavenly rural 8 acres..Northeast Alabama...favorite?.....gee, everything is my favorite! God bless.

-- Lesley (martchas@bellsouth.net), January 08, 2001.

Rural 40 minutes outside of Charlotte N.C. my most homesteady thing is my chickens. I love to look out my kitchen window and see them hanging around outside wainting for some day old corn bread!

-- Sarah from NC (Caswell995@cs.com), January 08, 2001.

Tekonsha, Michigan (home of Randell Beans) about thirty miles from where the ohio, indiana and michigan borders meet. 40 acres-14 tillable and the rest wooded. Gosh, my mustang or my goats, hard choice but I guess the goats would be the most homesteady because my horse thinks she's a dog.

-- diane (gardiacaprines@yahoo.com), January 08, 2001.

Hm, kind of hard to answer. I'm currently a city kid but have 16 acres just a half mile outside of the city limits since annexation last week. That's where my heart is and they say, "Home is where your heart is." Also have my grandfathers 160 acre homestead in Western Kansas.

For homestead kicks I use my boy toy Ford tractor to play--er work with. No critters currently, but have had in the past at my farm.

-- Notforprint (Not@thekeyboard.com), January 09, 2001.

Also currently in the city, but recently plunked down $$ on 4.7 acres in southern Missouri, hope to move there in a little over a year. I anticipate my favorite homesteady thing will be the peace and quiet, followed by the animals.

-- Cathy in NY (hrnofplnty@yahoo.com), January 09, 2001.

750 square metres on a cliff top overlooking a small bay in the South Pacific with a view of seaside houses and green hills beyond.

Favourite "homesteady" thing is checking into this site.

Our dog died a while ago, now a red and white male cat now rules the household.

Still a farm boy at heart but software development is good too, pays well and helps me see the world. I have clients in NZ, Australia, Hong Kong, Bhutan, Afghanistan, DPRK(North Korea) UK, USA and Czech Republic. There are a few more interesting places in the pipeline.

-- John Hill (john@cnd.co.nz), January 09, 2001.

100 miles NW of New York City, 50 rural acres (10 acres of field, 10 of wetland, the rest dry and wooded). I love the privacy, wildlife, agricultural zoning, and the fact I am no longer living in the 'burbs of NYC.

Washington, Maine, rural about 25 miles from town, my favorite homesteady thing is my dairy cow and my forty five acres. By the way, anybody from up here in Maine doing the homestead thing or at least like to talk about doing it? Even up here it seems to be a "weird" thing to be doing. Only been here 6 months but there aren't many as I've seen! cara lewis cnllewis@email.com

-- cara lewis (cnllewis@email.com), January 09, 2001.

nc IL, rural five acres among the farm fields, my favorite thing would have to be that homesteady feeling (you all know what I mean). Gosh, the snow is so beautiful and sparkling this morning in the sunshine!

-- Jean (schiszik@tbcnet.com), January 09, 2001.

Rual, Ramer, TN. 65 miles south of Jackson, TN 30 AC my favorite homesteady thing is my family, my life style and my livestock. God Bless.

-- tracy emily in TN (emilyfarms@tsixroads.com), January 09, 2001.

Buxton, Maine - about as rural as you can get when only 15 minutes from the Maine Mall (S. Portland). @ 40 acres, and fortunately, a very little travelled back road. But alas! we are becoming more "citified". Our town of some 10,000 has gone from 0 to 3 traffic lights in the past 10 years. I enjoy the garden, the chickens, and my rifle range which keeps the neighbors thinking I'm 1/2 a bubble off plumb. (In reality, it's barely 3/8th of a bubble!) GL!

-- Brad (homefixer@SacoRiver.net), January 09, 2001.

Southeastern West Virginia, Rural 16 acres on a secluded USFS road. Favorite thing- Solitude.

-- Judith (JHaral2197@aol.com), January 09, 2001.

Rural Kentucky, 12 acres. Favorite is my dog, General, the smartest dog on the planet, and my bottle-fed filly, Spirit, she'll be 2 in June. Found her in the woods the day after my birthday. I'm here for now, but I'm not sure where I'm supposed to be.

-- Cindy in Ky (solidrockranch@msn.com), January 09, 2001.

Western Washington State, between Puget Sound and the Cascade Mountains. 5 acres rural, becoming ex-urbia, around here, though. Favorite homesteady thing? Hmmm...I guess sheepish things, from raising lambs all the way to spinning and knitting their wool. And my husband who is my partner in all homesteady things.

-- sheepish (WA) (rborgo@gte.net), January 09, 2001.

Sharon Springs, Northwest Kansas. Garden and poultry. Our youngest son went to vo-tech in Emporia. We were there for his graduation. Some pretty country.

-- Barbara Fischer (bfischer42@hotmail.com), January 09, 2001.

North Florida (between Jacksonville & Tallahassee), 5.75 acres, rural. Love the quiet, privacy, and if I want to yell at DH, I can.

-- teri (mrs_smurf2000@yahoo.ca), January 10, 2001.

Central Wisconsin---6 acres, 1 1/2 wooded, 3/4 acre ponds, the rest open for gardens etc. Favorite things??? The ponds, chickens and goats, greenhouse and garden.

-- john leake (natlivent@pcpros.net), January 10, 2001.

E. Central Illinois (look for Lake Shelbyville). Rural - we live at the end of a dead-end road. 30 acres, about 12 tillable, rest timber. My favorite thing is - of course - my family, but my favorite homesteady type thing would have to be taking the crisp line dried sheets off the clothesline and putting them on the bed - then crawling in and being surrounded by that wonderful smell no fabric softener can come close to! Hmmm - wonder if it's far enough above freezing to risk my fingers to frostbite by hanging them out today!?

-- Polly (tigger@moultrie.com), January 10, 2001.

Northwest Washington State, 2 hours from the very NW point of this great country. 20 acres, rural but changing way too fast. Favorite thing changes with the season but right now it's the 3 unbelievably cute Highland calves we have racing aroung the pasture and of course my family.

-- Darcy in NW WA (gatecity@tenforward.com), January 10, 2001.

140 a in North Lawrence NY. We are near the St.Lawrence seaway .

-- Patty (fodfarms@hotmail.com), January 10, 2001.

Rural, 13 miles from a small town . 42 acers and lots of critters . My Dairy Goats are my favorite .

-- Lee (sgrmtn@moaccess.com), January 11, 2001.

North Central Arkansas near Batesville, semi-rural, 7 miles from town. 1.25 acres. I'd have to say my goats and my garden. The goats are staying in the barn because there is "white stuff" on the ground and they don't trust it and my garden which isn't doing anything because there was ice for several weeks and now snow.First year we've not had winter greens. We could easily have had cold frames but didn't think we needed to put them up. We also have 47 acres 35 miles north of here and my son and his family live there, they have a garden and chickens. We have toyed with the idea of moving back up there but if we ever sell this place I think we are going to NE TN.

-- Artie Ann Karns (rokarns@arkansas.net), January 11, 2001.

Rural- Nova Scotia, Canada. My favorite animals are the goats (Nubians), my favotite homesteady activity is baking in my wood cookstove, but only in the winter

-- Terri (terri@tallships.ca), January 11, 2001.

3/4 acre NE NC can see the sound/bay. Favorite things garden and baking bread. Oh yeah can't forget the cats! Nan

-- Nan (graf_nan@hotmail.com), January 11, 2001.

Rural central PA. After my family, it's the livestock & garden.

-- Phyllis (almostafarm@yahoo.com), January 12, 2001.

I am from Wisconsin. We are surrounded by a lot of little towns. My Husband, Daughter and i live on 39 1/2 acres with a tiny river running through. Looks like a winding creek, and i love it. My favorite homestead thing...hmmm i would have to say the whole package. The privacy, freedom, being surrounded by nature and the feeling of satisfaction after putting in a hard days work. This is where we belong. Sorry hens, i really do love my ladies!

-- Shau Marie (shau@centurytel.net), January 12, 2001.

Rural southeastern Indiana, about an hour and a half away from Indpls. Cinti, and Louisville. My current all time favorite homestead thing is our wood burning stove.

Northern Maine, 28 cares, mostly wooded. Favorite things, anything to do with the out of doors.

-- michelle (tsjheath@ainop.com), January 13, 2001.

Central Wisconsin--very rural-9 acres/big natural pond. The bestest thing is the peace and quiet. My husband never realized, until we moved here 8 years ago, that he could literally hear flys buzz and leaves fall out of the trees.

-- Ardie from WI (a6203@hotmail.com), January 14, 2001.

Rural, 104 acres of hardwoods and hayfields, not a flat piece of ground in sight, no neighboors in sight either! SE Ohio, in the foothills of the Allegheny Front, my favorite things are the animals (horses, dogs, cats, chickens, and wild birds and deer) and the peace and quiet like none other on Earth!!!

-- Annie Miller in SE OH (annie@1st.net), January 14, 2001.
