Quote for the Day 12/19/00

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

I've been keeping a notebook of quotes by famous and not so famous people for the last few years. Thought perhaps I would share them with you one or two at a time.

"I never had any other desire so like to covetousness as that one, which I have had always, that I might be master at last, of a small house and large garden, with very moderate conveniences joyned to them, and there dedicate the remainder of my life, onely to the culture of them, and study of nature. And there, with no design beyond my wall, whole and entire to lye, in no unactive ease, and no unglorious poverty." -----Abraham Crowley - The Garden, 1666

Someone yearning for the simple life back in the 1600's! Thanks Debra. The most humbling quote I have ever read is this one from Helen Keller - "So much has been given to me; I have no time to ponder over that which has been denied."
