Source for refractory cement?

Thanks for all the suggestions regarding my odd size firebrick problem.

To make my own using refractory cement sounds most practical. Where does one obtain refractory cement?

Check with your local hardware store to see if they can special order it for you. If not, go to the local library and find the yellow pages for the nearest large city. Look under Boilers - Supplies & Parts. Then start calling around.

They also may have what are called insulating bricks. They are a fraction of the weight of a standard firebrick and can be cut to size with a tablesaw (use a blade already dulled though).

I bought some from Lehman's several years ago. They list is as "CASTABLE FIREBRICK" on page 104 of the 2000 catalog, it's not cheap but does the job, 12.5 pounds, $25.00 check their web site: www.lehmans.com
