I stock pile bean coffee (25 to 50 lbs). prior to grinding, I put the beans in a clean, uncovered roasting pan in our oven at 275 degrees for 45 minutes to an hour to roast a little more and remove any accumulated moisture, turning them frequently, then grind. For a darker, stronger flavor I raise the temp to 325. My wife loves the way the house smells like a coffee house all day

Jay: Where do you get your bulk unroasted coffee beans??? diane in michigan

Diane, I buy the whole bean coffee at various stores in our area. Mostly, its already roasted, however, I did find unroasted beans in 20 lb bags at our warehouse discount. Even buying the pre roasted beans, I try to buy the 10 lb bags and have found 20 lb bags at the Sav-a-Lot. I have found the 20 lb bags cost less than a dollar a lb when on sale. After storage, it aquires some moisture and needs reroasting. Also, if you like a storger blend, reroasting a cheaper bean can make a more robust coffee. The time we bought the unroasted coffee, we spent all day dark roasting it.
